If you have recently purchased or have been gifted an air fryer you may be wondering what to do with it. To help you start your air fryer journey, we have put a collection of keto air fryer recipes together.
As it's fairly large, you don't want it sitting on your kitchen counter, taking up space and being unused. So you need to know how to use it and what recipes can be made in it.
The air fryer is great for low carb recipes and takes less time than a traditional oven too! You could even air fry a whole chicken (if you have a large air fryer!).

Are air fryers good for keto?
Air fryers are a great appliance for keto diets. Non keto fried food can easily be adapted and cooked in the air fryer. The reduction of the amount of oil used means that the calories are reduced too.
How does an air fryer work?
The air fryer is a mini-convection oven with a fan and uses a lot less oil than deep frying. It's great for enjoying fried food with a lot less calories!
The food is place in a basket inside the air fryer and hot air is circulated to cook it. It's a simple as that!
What is the difference in an air fryer and convection oven?
In principle, there is no real difference between an air fryer and convenction oven. Both use a powerful fan with hot air to cook the food.
However, the air fryer is smaller in size and sits comfortably on the kitchen counter. The fan in an air fryer is faster too.
What can you cook in the air fryer?
It seems that you can cook almost anything! I've even seen cookies cooked in an air fryer but have yet to try that myself.
We have used it to cook salmon fillets (I need to post a recipe one day!), vegetables, chicken and eggs. Anything you would have deep fried is great in the air fryer, so your fried chicken, nuggets, wings and low carb fries are good to go!
Tips for using your air fryer
- Pre-heat the air fryer before use.
- Lightly spray oil on your food before using to help it crisp and brown.
- Place the food in the basket in a single layer and don't over crowd it.
- Clean the basket and drawer after use.
What are the best oils to use in an air fryer?
When using an air fryer you will need a small amount of oil. For food that is tossed in season oil, you just place it in the basket. Other recipes will need a light spray of oil. So what oil should you use?
You need an oil that works well with high temperatures, with avocado and olive oil being great oils to use.
What type of air fryer?
If you are looking for a personal recommendation from me I would love to help but cannot give you a confident one as we only have 2 types of air fryers on the island. I love mine and it works for me, but there are many larger brands that might be better for you.
However, air fryers do come in different sizes. So if you have a large family, you will want a different one from someone who only is cooking for one or two. The sizes range from 5 to 2 quarts.
The Magic Bullet Air Fryer has amazing reviews (I look on jealously as we don't have that here) and might be something to look at. Dash do a great line too (they don't just produce chaffle makers).
