These keto chocolate chip cookies are utterly scrumptious with a golden-brown exterior offers a satisfying crunch, while the inside remains soft and chewy. Baked with low carb flours and sweeteners, this is an easy keto cookie recipe you will want to make again and again.

They are firm enough to be used in an ice cream sandwich as well as dunking into your morning coffee. The cookie dough is good enough to eat by itself too!

When the Chief Taster eats these he makes happy eating noises of "yum yum yum" which is now my benchmark that it's a good recipe. If he had his way, these would be baked weekly! These are currently my best keto chocolate chip cookie recipe. Until I experiment with another recipe!

How Many Net Carbs in a Cookie?

The number of net carbs in a traditional chocolate chip cookie made with all-purpose flour, sugar, and chocolate chips can vary depending on the size of the cookie and the specific recipe, but on average, contains about 15 to 20 grams of net carbs.

Are Cookies Allowed on Keto?

On a ketogenic diet, traditional high-carb cookies are not allowed due to their high sugar and flour content. However, you can enjoy cookies made with low-carb ingredients like almond or coconut flour, natural sweeteners (allulose stevia, monk fruit), keto-friendly chocolate chips, and healthy fats (butter, coconut oil, ghee).

Keto Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients

A mixture of low carb flours and sweeteners create a tasty cookie.

A display of various ingredients in bowls labeled as almond flour, coconut flour, allulose, brown sweetener, melted butter, egg & yolk, vanilla, xanthan gum, baking powder, salt, and chocolate chips.
  • Almond Flour - use finely ground almond flour for the best results.
  • Coconut Flour - we sometimes substitute this with oat fibre in the same volume. The coconut flour helps with the cookie texture but if you want to omit the coconut flour, replace it with almond flour.
  • Sugar free chocolate chips - Use sugar-free or keto-friendly chocolate chips, which are made with low carb sweeteners.
  • Butter - for a dairy free cookie, coconut oil can be substituted.
  • Sweeteners - we use a mixture of brown monkfruit and allulose to help improve the color and appearance of the cookies by mimicking the caramelization process that regular sugar produces. You can make these with just one sweetener if you wish.
  • Xanthan gum - helps bind the ingredients in the absence of gluten and enhances the chewiness of the cookie. If you are not a fan of xanthan gum you could omit it or use a substitute such as Glucomannan or guar gum.
  • Eggs - help to bind the cookie and adds moisture.
  • Vanilla Extract - adds to the flavor.
  • Chocolate Chips - use unsweetened chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips or chop a dark chocolate bar into chunks. Lily's chocolate chips are a good choice to use.

How to Make Keto Chocolate Chip Cookies

The size of the cookies can be made as small or large as you wish. Ours in the photos are on the large side as I was using them in an ice cream sandwich recipe too.

Two bowls on a dark countertop: one containing a whisked yellow mixture and the other filled with a crumbly flour blend.

Mix the dry and wet ingredients in two separate mixing bowls.

Add the wet to the dry ingredients and form into a dough. Add the chocolate chips.

How to Store Cookies

Place the keto chocolate chip cookies in an airtight container to prevent them from becoming stale or absorbing moisture. Refrigeration is particularly good for keto cookies with ingredients that are prone to spoilage, such as cream cheese or certain types of fat.

The cookies will last about 2 to 3 weeks. Unless they are in the sights of the Chief Taster, then they will only last up to 4 days. Refrigeration helps maintain freshness, especially for cookies with perishable ingredients.

Freezing Cookies

Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before freezing. Place the cookies in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until firm, about 1-2 hours. Transfer the frozen cookies to an airtight container or resealable freezer bag. Label the container with the date.

To enjoy, take out the desired number of cookies and let them thaw at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes. You can also reheat them in the oven for a few minutes to restore their fresh-baked texture.

Recipe Tips

Refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. This helps the cookies hold their shape and results in a better texture.

Always preheat your oven to the correct temperature to ensure even baking.

Low carb chocolate chip cookies can brown faster than traditional cookies. Check them a few minutes before the recommended baking time to prevent overbaking.

Let cookies cool completely on a wire rack before storing them to prevent them from becoming soggy.

Cookie Flavor Suggestions

These chocolate chip cookies have a classic flavor but try them adding low carb nuts such as walnuts, pecans and warm spices like cinnamon or nutmeg.
