Are Peaches Keto?
Peaches can be consumed on a ketogenic diet, but they need to be consumed in moderation due to their natural sugar content. While peaches are relatively low in carbohydrates compared to some other fruits, they still contain some amount of sugar.
Since a medium-sized peach contains around 9g net carbs it can contribute a significant portion of your daily carbohydrate allowance on a ketogenic diet. It's important to consider your overall carbohydrate intake from other sources when deciding whether to include peaches in your diet.
Ingredients
Fresh, rip and tasty ingredients make a great salad. For the dressing you can add your own. We've added a balsamic dressing in the recipe card.
- Salad leaves - most salad leaves will work in this recipe. We used a selection of baby salad leaves. Baby spinach or arugula are a good choice too.
- Mozzarella - a ball of fresh mozzarella.
- Peaches - firm and fresh.
- Red onion - this could be substituted with chopped green onion.
- Avocado - the creamy texture goes well with the salad.
- Tomatoes - we used cherry tomatoes but chopped heirloom would be just as delicious.
- Basil - fresh basil leaves gives a great summer flavor to the salad.
- Olive oil - this can be substituted with avocado oil. You want a light oil to grill the peaches with that does not overpower their flavor.
How to Grill Peaches
Grilled peaches make for a delicious and simple summer dessert or a tasty addition to salads and savory dishes.
- Choose ripe but firm peaches for grilling. Wash the peaches and cut them in half, removing the pit. You can leave the skin on or peel it off, depending on your preference.
- Brush the cut sides of the peach halves lightly with oil to prevent them from sticking to the grill and to enhance caramelization.
- Place the peach halves cut-side down on the preheated grill. Grill them for about 2-4 minutes per side, or until grill marks form and the peaches are slightly softened. Be careful not to overcook them, as they can become mushy.
- Once the peaches are grilled to your liking, carefully remove them from the grill using tongs or a spatula. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
Remove stone and cut peaches.
Grill until marks are on the peaches.
Recipe Tips
Replace the mozzarella cheese with fresh creamy burrata cheese. Or use some creamy and tangy cheese to complement the sweetness of the peaches. Goat cheese, feta cheese, or blue cheese crumbles work well in a grilled peach salad.
Toasted nuts add crunch add an earthy flavor. Consider adding sliced almonds, pecans, or walnuts to your salad. A handful of pumpkin seeds is also delicious.
If you want to make your salad more substantial, consider adding a protein source. Grilled chicken, shrimp, or even grilled halloumi cheese can work well with the flavors of the salad.
Choose a light and tangy dressing to balance the sweetness of the peaches. A balsamic vinaigrette, honey mustard dressing, or citrus-based dressing would all complement the flavors nicely.
What to serve with your grilled peach salad
This salad is hearty enough to enjoy by yourself for a light lunch, but it can be served as a side to grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, or salmon. Season them with herbs, spices, or marinades that complement the flavors of the peaches.
Roasted vegetables make a great side dish that complements the freshness of the salad. Consider roasting vegetables like asparagus, bell peppers, zucchini, or eggplant. Toss them with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and roast until tender and caramelized.
