Air fryer sweet potato wedges are a delicious, healthy alternative to traditional fried potatoes. These wedges are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with natural sweetness and nutrients. Perfect as a snack, side dish, or appetizer, they're quick and easy to prepare in an air fryer, requiring minimal oil for a guilt-free treat.
Orange sweet potatoes can be hard to find on our island as they are imported. The local sweet potatoes are white and very starchy. When one of my favorite independent stores starting to bring these large bad boys in, it was rude not to reach for my air fryer and make wedges!

Ingredients
You can easily adjust the seasoning to suit your taste preferences. Whether you like them spicy, savory, or slightly sweet, this recipe is highly adaptable.
- Sweet Potatoes - select sweet potatoes that are firm to the touch. Soft or mushy spots can indicate spoilage or dehydration, which can affect the texture and flavor.
- Olive Oil - helps the sweet potato wedges crisp up in the air fryer and ensures the seasonings stick to the potatoes. Avocado oil can be substituted.
- Seasonings of your choice - we have a few flavor suggestions below.
How to Make Air Fryer Sweet Potato Wedges
Wash and cut the potatoes into wedges. Leaving the skin on is optional.
Soak the wedges in water for 30 minutes.
Dry, dress in oil and seasonings.
Air fry for 20 minutes.
Why Soak Sweet Potato Wedges in Water?
Soaking helps to remove some of the surface starch from the sweet potatoes. Excess starch can cause the wedges to be gummy or stick together during cooking. Removing this starch helps them crisp up more effectively in the air fryer.
The process of soaking can result in a crisper exterior and a tender interior, which is the desired texture for well-cooked wedges.
Storage
Allow the sweet potato wedges to cool completely to room temperature before storing. This helps prevent condensation, which can make them soggy.
Place the cooled wedges in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag. Ensure you squeeze out as much air as possible before sealing. Store the container in the refrigerator. The wedges will stay fresh for up to 3-4 days.
Reheating
Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Place the wedges in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Reheat for 3-5 minutes, or until heated through and crispy.
