    Are carrots keto-friendly?

Carrots are not typically considered keto-friendly due to their higher carbohydrate content. A medium-sized carrot (about 61 grams) contains approximately 4 grams of net carbs, which can add up quickly if consumed in larger quantities.

While carrots do contain essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber, the carbohydrate content can make it challenging to fit them into a strict ketogenic diet. However, if you're following a less restrictive low-carb or moderate-carb diet, you may be able to enjoy carrots in moderation.

    Ingredients

We have kept the flavorings of these carrot fries to one herb but have a few more flavor ideas further down.

    Baking Carrot Fries

If you don't have an air fryer, these carrot fries can be made in the oven. Baking carrot fries is another great method to achieve crispy and flavorful results.

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to ensure it's hot and ready for baking. Cut and season the carrot fries as per the recipe card below. : Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easier cleanup. Arrange the seasoned carrot fries in a single layer on the baking sheet, ensuring they have some space between them. This allows them to cook evenly and become crispy.

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until the carrot fries are golden brown and crispy. Halfway through baking, flip the fries with tongs or a spatula to promote even browning.

    Recipe Tips

Choose the right carrots: Look for fresh, firm carrots that are relatively uniform in size. This will ensure even cooking and consistent results.

    • Cut them evenly: Cut the carrots into uniform sticks or wedges to ensure they cook evenly. Aim for a thickness of about ¼ to ½ inch (0.6 to 1.3 cm).
    • Coat with oil: Lightly coat the carrot sticks with oil to help them crisp up in the air fryer. You can use olive oil, avocado oil, or any cooking oil of your choice. Toss them in a bowl with the oil until evenly coated.
    • Season to taste: Season the carrot fries with your preferred spices and herbs to enhance their flavor. Popular options include paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, or dried herbs like thyme or rosemary. Add a pinch of salt and pepper for extra taste.
    • Preheat the air fryer: Preheating the air fryer for a few minutes before adding the carrot fries helps promote even cooking and crispiness.
    • Arrange in a single layer: Place the carrot fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between them for proper air circulation. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and less crispy results. If needed, cook them in multiple batches.
    • Shake or flip halfway: Halfway through the cooking time, pause the air fryer and shake the basket or flip the carrot fries to ensure they cook evenly on all sides. This helps achieve a uniform golden-brown color and crispy texture.
    • Adjust cooking time and temperature: The cooking time and temperature may vary depending on the thickness of the carrot fries and the specific air fryer model. Keep an eye on them as they cook and adjust the time or temperature as needed to achieve your desired level of crispness.
    • Don't overcrowd the basket: If you're cooking a large batch of carrot fries, it's best to cook them in multiple batches to avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and less crispy fries.
    • Serve immediately: Carrot fries are best enjoyed when they're hot and fresh from the air fryer. Serve them as a snack, side dish, or as a healthy alternative to traditional potato fries.
