These air fryer fried mushrooms are coated in almond flour and ranch seasoning for a crispy low carb and gluten-free appetizer or game day snack. Enjoy air fryer breaded mushrooms without the carbs or oil!
We used homemade ranch seasoning to add flavor to the crispy mushroom coating but you could omit this or add your own seasoning.

ARE MUSHROOMS KETO?
Mushrooms are a great keto ingredients as they are naturally low in carbohydrates. They carb vary depending upon varieties but a 100 gram serving of mushrooms can be 3g net carbs. They are also low in calories, high in fiber and are rich in vitamin B2 and B5.
Mushrooms make a versatile vegetable in a low carb diet and can be used as an appetizer, side dish and main dish. Our spinach mushroom ring is a great main course recipe.
IS RANCH SEASONING LOW CARB?
If you are buying a ranch seasoning packet there is a strong chance that it will be loaded with additives and sugar that are not suitable for a low carb dressing. Making your own ranch seasoning is easy and all you need to do is mix the ingredients together. Store in a glass jar ready for cooking or making a quick dip or salad dressing.
HOMEMADE RANCH SEASONING
Recipes may vary and you can adjust the seasonings to your own taste but a good start is:
- ¼ cup buttermilk powder
- 4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried dill
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon dried chives
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Just 4 ingredients make this quick and easy low carb mushroom recipe.
For the mushrooms we used brown mushrooms but you could use other type of mushrooms such as white button mushrooms or even portobello mushrooms for this recipe.
HOW TO MAKE KETO AIR FRYER FRIED MUSHOOMS
This is a quick and easy recipe that can be made with minimal fuss. We find it's great when we want a light meal or snack when we have mushrooms to hand.
We slice the mushrooms in half for an easy bite sized snack but if you have smaller mushrooms keep them whole.
Set up your dipping station
Dip a mushroom half into the beaten egg
Coat the mushroom in seasoned almond flour
Air fry for 5-8 minutes
VARIATIONS
Although almond flour gives the air fried mushrooms a great crunch in place of breadcrumbs you could use a different coating or mix them all together.
- Ground pork rinds
- Whey protein powder
- Grated Parmesan
The ranch dressing can be omitted and replaced with a mix of spices or herbs.
STORAGE
If you have leftovers, I'll be surprised! However, in the eventuality of such an event, the air fried mushrooms can be stored in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. They can be reheated in the air fryer or even enjoyed cold.
These keto breaded mushrooms will store in the fridge for up to 2 days, but there are better fresh.
WHAT TO SERVE WITH AIR FRYER MUSHROOMS
Crispy air fried mushrooms are great serve with a dipping sauce. A ranch dip is an easy option, or homemade mayonnaise with a drizzle or sriracha sauce but our avocado and mustard dip is a delicious choice.
FAQ
Sadly most frozen mushrooms come with breaded coating which is not suitable for a low carb diet.
The mushrooms could be dipped in the egg and coated and stored in the fridge until you are ready to cook.
Don't despair if you do not have an air fryer as they can be baked in the oven. Place the mushrooms on a parchment lined baking sheet and cook for 15-20 minutes at 200C/400F until they are crispy.

Ingredients
- 8 oz mushrooms
- 1 large egg beaten
- 1 oz ranch seasoning homemade preferable
- 3.9 oz almond flour
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes as per the manufacturer's instructions.
- Place the almond flour and ranch seasoning into a large zip lock bag.
- Wipe the mushrooms clean with a slightly damp paper towel and cut the mushrooms in half.
- Dip the mushroom halves into the egg to coat.
- Place the mushrooms in the almond flour mix and shake to cover the entire mushrooms.
- Place the mushrooms in the air fryer basket in a single layer (you may need to cook the mushrooms in batches) and lightly spray them with a non-stick cooking spray. Air fry at 190C/375F degrees for 5-7 minutes until crispy. Shake the basket half way through cooking for an even cook.
- Serve with a dip.
