Protein in Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is a great source of protein. The protein content in cottage cheese can vary depending on the fat content and brand, but on average:

1 cup (240g) of cottage cheese contains approximately 25-28 grams of protein.
This makes cottage cheese an excellent choice for those looking to increase their protein intake, whether as a snack, in recipes, or as part of a meal.

Ingredients

This is all you need to make this tasty dip.

  • Cottage cheese - Provides a rich source of protein, contributing to the creamy texture while keeping the dip light.
  • Avocado - Adds a creamy, buttery texture and a dose of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats.
  • Garlic - Adds a punch of flavor with its aromatic and slightly spicy notes
  • Lemon Juice - Brightens the dip with a tangy, refreshing flavor and helps prevent the avocado from browning. Could be substituted with lime juice.
  • Dill - Brings a tangy, herbaceous note that complements the avocado.
  • Chives - Adds a mild onion-like flavor and freshness.
  • Salt & Pepper - Essential for seasoning, bringing out the natural flavors of the ingredients.

How to Make Cottage Cheese Avocado Dip

This is a quick and easy dip you could make at the last minute. Just make sure you have low carb crackers to hand to enjoy this.

A blender containing ingredients such as avocado, cottage cheese, and other foods sits on a kitchen counter, ready to be blended.

Place all ingredients in blender and blitz.

A hand dips a piece of cracker into a bowl of green dip, garnished with a sprig of dill, on a marble surface. Other crackers are placed around the bowl.

Enjoy with low carb crackers.

How to Store Cottage Cheese Avocado Dip

If the dip starts to turn brown due to oxidation, it's still safe to eat, but the appearance might be less appealing. For the freshest taste and best texture, consume the dip within a day or two.

Place the dip in a container with a tight-fitting lid to minimize exposure to air and prevent browning.

Store the dip in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The lemon juice will help preserve the avocado's color, but it's best enjoyed fresh.

Give the dip a quick stir before serving, as it may separate slightly during storage.

Dip Recipe Tips

Feel free to tweak the amount of salt, pepper, or lemon juice according to your preference. Taste as you go to get the seasoning just right.

If you like a bit of texture, consider chopping some of the avocado into small pieces and folding it into the dip after blending.

If preparing in advance, make the dip no more than 1-2 hours before serving for the best taste and texture.

What to Serve with the Dip

Here are some keto-friendly options to serve with your Cottage Cheese Avocado Dip:

  1. Vegetable Sticks: Fresh, low-carb veggies are perfect for dipping. Try:
    • Celery sticks
    • Cucumber slices
    • Bell pepper strips
    • Zucchini sticks
    • Radishes
  2. Keto Crackers: Make or buy keto-friendly crackers that are low in carbs. Look for those made with almond flour or cheese.
  3. Cheese Chips: Homemade cheese chips or store-bought versions made from baked or fried cheese can be a crunchy and satisfying dipper.
  4. Avocado Slices: For extra avocado flavor, serve with additional slices or wedges of avocado.
  5. Pickles: Low-carb pickles add a tangy contrast and crunch to the creamy dip.
  6. Keto Bread: Serve with slices of keto-friendly bread or toast.
  7. Egg Muffins: These make for a filling and protein-rich accompaniment.

Flavor Variations

Here are some additional flavor additions you can consider for your Cottage Cheese Avocado Dip:

  1. Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, or a dash of hot sauce for some heat.
  2. Smoky Flavor: Incorporate smoked paprika or a touch of chipotle powder for a smoky twist.
  3. Herb Variations: Experiment with other fresh herbs such as basil, parsley, or tarragon for different flavor profiles.
  4. Sun-Dried Tomatoes: Finely chop sun-dried tomatoes and mix them in for a burst of tangy sweetness.
  5. Olives: Add finely chopped olives for a briny, savory touch.
  6. Cucumber: Incorporate diced cucumber for extra crunch and freshness.
  7. Lemon Zest: Add some lemon zest for an extra citrusy punch.
  8. Nutritional Yeast: Stir in a tablespoon of nutritional yeast for a cheesy, umami flavor.

These additions can enhance the flavor of your dip and make it even more versatile!
