Enjoy an easy low carb Marinara sauce with none of the sugar and chemicals that store bought have. This has lots of flavour and is a versatile sauce too.

keto marinara sauce

Just like making homemade mayonnaise, this homemade Italian sauce is quick, easy and tastier than store bought. Once you make your own there is no going back to store bought. A sealed jar should keep for a week in the fridge.

If you are using tinned tomatoes, keep an eye on the ingredients and watch out for added sugar. Always read the nutrition label on anything tinned or in a jar and watch out for the carbs, and sugar and any sneaky ingredients.

What is Marinara Sauce?

Traditionally, a Marinara sauce is a tomato sauce, seasoned with herbs, garlic and onions. I add Parmesan cheese to mine for extra flavour and texture. There is a quick and dirty low carb Marinara sauce I make too by mixing Parmesan, oregano with tomato puree. I add water to get a thinner texture and voila! A quick pizza sauce.

Oregano is the usual herb of choice but you could add other herbs such as basil. Chili flakes are also a nice addition. Add a dash of red wine for a special occasion!

What to serve with Low Carb Marinara Sauce

The great thing about having a jar of home made Marinara sauce in your fridge is that it can be used in many dishes in addition to pizza. Slather over zucchini noodles for a quick dish or a few suggestions are:

Chicken Bolognese

Low Carb Breadsticks

Chicken Meatballs Casserole

Jalapeno Popper Pizza

Pizza Bomb Bites
