CHAMPAGE OR PROSECCO FOR A MIMOSA?
Traditionally, mimosas are made with champagne, but you can also use prosecco if you prefer. Champagne is a sparkling wine produced exclusively in the Champagne region of France, while Prosecco is an Italian sparkling wine made primarily from the Glera grape. Both champagne and prosecco have a light, effervescent quality that pairs well with fruit juice in a mimosa.
The choice ultimately comes down to personal preference and budget. Champagne tends to be more expensive than prosecco, so if you're looking for a more affordable option, prosecco is a great choice. However, if you want to add a touch of luxury to your mimosa, go for the champagne. Either way, you're sure to enjoy a delicious and refreshing mimosa!
INGREDIENTS
Making a classic cocktail suitable for a low carb diet is easy enough by replacing the sugars with a low carb alternative.
- Strawberries - fresh are better than frozen for this recipe.
- Champagne or Prosecco - either work well.
- Tequila - a low carb spirit
- Orange extract - our homemade orange extract recipe is a sugar free substitute for Triple Sec
- Lime juice - preferably freshly squeezed.
HOW TO MAKE A STRAWBERRY MARGARITA MIMOSA
The strawberry margarita mixture can be prepared ahead of serving.
Muddle the strawberries
Add the lime juice to the strawberries
Add tequila and orange extract to the strawberry mixture
Add the strawberry mixture and top up with prosecco or champagne
RECIPE TIPS
The strawberry mixture could be processed together in a blender instead of muddling.
Replace the strawberries with other low carb friendly berries such as raspberries or blackberries.
Pour the sparkling wine slowly as it may fizz up over the glass when added to the strawberry mixture.
