A creamy fried cabbage dish which is sweetened by red pepper and onion caramalized in butter. Great as a main, versatile as a side dish. Quick and easy to make too.
Yes, a cooked cabbage dish and not a bowl of coleslaw which is my normal use of cabbage. Before you run screaming from the screen muttering about a cabbage dish and wondering where you hid that chocolate bar, you need to stay a while to listen and then judge. This could be the dish that converts you to a cabbage lover!

Forget about the boiled cabbage of your childhood with its "fragrant smells" and delight in a creamy and tasty dish. Growing up my German Grandmother was always making some boiled cabbage dish that should have put me off it for life. Nothing she cooked could ever tempt me. As many of my therapists walk me around the vegetable section of the supermarket, I've eventually come to terms that not all vegetables need to be boiled within an inch of their lives.
Cabbage is a healthy low carb vegetable too. Cabbage contains 2 grams of digestible carbs per serving. It’s high in vitamins C and K and may reduce the risk of certain cancers.
Creamy Cabbage
This is actually a dish I've been making for a while as it's so easy to make and is a favourite of ours when I don't want to spend hours in the kitchen, am hungry but want something tasty. It's cheap too which is an added bonus. You'll find us eating this a few days before payday!
I've played around with this adding various herbs such as basil, which was delicious. Parmesan and any surplus grated Cheddar cheese has also been added to this dish in other versions as it's fairly versatile. Garlic powder also works very well instead of fresh garlic. Here, the recipe is just in it's simplistic form. Play around to your own tastes.

As well as being a main dish, this is a great side dish with a baked squash and also chicken. Almost a replacement to creamy noodles or pasta. If you are looking for a creamy comfort dish, then look no further. This should do it. The creaminess of the sauce along with the sweetness of the red pepper and onion makes this a dish that you will want to try again.
The sauce in this recipe can also be replaced with our cottage cheese Alfredo sauce recipe for a higher protein recipe.
