Ingredients

Instructions

  • Wash the orange thoroughly to remove any dirt or wax from the skin. Pat dry with a clean towel.
  • Use a sharp knife or vegetable peeler to carefully remove the zest (orange part of the skin) from the orange. Try to avoid including any of the white pith, as it can make the extract bitter.
  • Place the orange zest in a clean glass jar or bottle with a tight-fitting lid.
  • Pour the vodka over the orange zest, ensuring that it completely covers the zest. The alcohol acts as a solvent to extract the orange flavor.
  • Seal the jar tightly and shake it gently to combine the ingredients.
  • Store the jar in a cool, dark place, such as a pantry or cabinet, for at least 2 weeks. Shake the jar once every few days to help extract the flavor.
  • After 2 weeks, strain the extract through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container, discarding the orange zest.
  • Transfer the orange extract into a small amber glass bottle with a tight-fitting lid for storage. It can be stored for up to 6 months.
