Turnips make a pretty side dish when served in a hasselback style.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium turnips
  • ¼ cup butter melted
  • 3 cloves garlic peeled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons rosemary fresh & chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 200C/400F degrees
  • Peel the turnips and cut in half or quarters
  • With a sharp knife, carefully slice into the turnip making thin slits that go about 80% of the way through.
  • In a bowl mix the melted butter, garlic and chopped herbs
  • Place the turnips in a baking tray.
  • Drizzle the butter mixture over the turnips and season
  • Roast for 50 minutes until crisp and golden, basting every 15 minutes.

Notes

Makes 4 servings.
For a Hasselback presentation, try to maintain uniform thickness in your slices to ensure even cooking.
Parboiling the turnips before roasting can fasten the roasting time.
Use a fork to test if the turnips are tender. They should be soft enough to pierce easily.
