Carbs in Espresso Martini
In a normal espresso martini the culprit of the high carbohydrates content is the sugar drenched Kahlua. There are about 25g carbohydrates in a glass! However, this can be made into a low carb martini, simply by using our keto Kahlua recipe which is a low carb coffee liquor.
The Ingredients
All you need is just 4 ingredients for this low carb cocktail.
- 1 oz keto kahlua
- 2 oz vodka
- 2 oz strong coffee
- 1 teaspoon liquid low cab sweetener
How to make a keto espresso martini
Two things make a good espresso martini. First the balance of the ingredients need to be right. You don't want the vodka to overpower the coffee flavours.
Secondly, it's all in the shaking of the cocktail shaker to get the frothy creamy topping. Shake it like you mean it and don't be afraid to shake longer than you think.
What coffee should be used?
Although the name of this cocktail is a bit of a clue, a good strong coffee can be used. Ideally, espresso coffee should be used. I don't have an espresso machine so will purchase it from a coffee shop.
Alternatively, you could use home brewed coffee but make it strong. Instant coffee can be used for a last resort but make it strong. Not strong enough for a spoon to stand up in it but with the flavour strength of an espresso.
What vodka should I use?
The vodka needs to be a quality smooth vodka. Any cheap vodka will not do. Brands such as Ketel, Grey Goose and Tito's are all good choices. Try a vanilla vodka too for a delicious addition to the flavour.
The low carb sweetener
Ideally, the low carb sweetener should be a liquid sweetener. We use Lanko's liquid sweetener as it doesn't have an aftertaste, but use the one you like most. If you can't find a liquid sweetener, dissolve your granular low carb sweetener in some hot water to make a simple syrup. Allow to cool before use.
